Shyrel Uranie Primo - beloved mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend - passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026 at the age of 75. Shyrel was born on November 20, 1950, in Plaisance Village, Guyana, to Lucille Primo, and was the cherished granddaughter of Charlotte Schulters-Primo. Her childhood was filled with the warmth and simplicity of village life. She attended St. Paul’s Primary School and often reminisced about flying kites along the seawall and Sundays spent getting her hair done while sipping swank. These memories remained close to her heart and reflected the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures.

In 1964, Shyrel migrated to the United States, settling in Queens, New York, where she began building a life rooted in family, hard work, and community. A devoted mother and proud grandmother, she found her greatest happiness in caring for those she loved. She also enjoyed attending baseball games to cheer on the New York Mets, often bringing her daughter Stephanie along. Those days in the picnic area, surrounded by friends and coworkers, were filled with laughter, storytelling, and the kind of togetherness she treasured.

Shyrel was a nurses’ aide at Waterview Nursing Care Center, where her natural compassion and gentle spirit made her a source of comfort to many. Her passion for cooking eventually led her to the dietary department, where she expressed her love through food. Whether at work or at home, Shyrel nourished people in every sense of the word. Her home was always open, her kitchen always active, and her table always ready. She cooked with instinct and heart, and no one ever left her presence hungry. She believed in feeding others first, a reflection of her selfless and giving nature.

Even after losing her vision, Shyrel’s determination never wavered. She continued to move through life with independence and courage, confidently navigating the busy streets of Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn. She refused to be defined by limitation and instead demonstrated a remarkable strength that inspired everyone around her. Her resilience was matched only by her kindness. She was always ready with a helping hand, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement.

To know Shyrel was to experience warmth, laughter, and unconditional care. She had a way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and loved. Her presence brought comfort, her meals brought joy, and her spirit brought people together. She embodied quiet dignity, unwavering devotion to family, and a deep compassion that touched many lives.

Shyrel is survived by her loving daughter, Stephanie; son-in-law, Ronald; cherished grandson, King Elijah; brother, Richard; and sister, Coreen. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Brenda and Jacqueline; and nephews, Quacy, DeAndre, and Delvon.

Shyrel Uranie Primo lived a life defined by strength, faith, and service. Her love was expressed in action—through every meal prepared, every sacrifice made, and every life she uplifted. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit remains in the traditions she created, the family she nurtured, and the countless hearts she touched. Her legacy of love will endure for generations to come.
