Shawn Gary
Griffith
Sep 12, 1973 — Jun 14, 2026
Piscataway New Jersey
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, friend, and hero, Shawn Gary “SolidG” Griffith, who left this life on June 14, 2026. Shawn was born on September 12, 1973, In Barbados West Indies, the first son of Agnes Yvonne, eldest brother to Greg, Jeremy, Richard and Kimberly, uncle to Lali who he loved dearly, cousin to many, and a beloved friend. In his fifty-two years, he lived with purpose, precision, strength, curiosity, and deep love for those fortunate enough to truly know him. Shawn was profoundly interested in people and things.
To those who loved him, Shawn was a rock. His nickname, “SolidG,” captured something essential about who he was. He was steady, dependable, brilliant, and unbreakable in spirit. Shawn was the kind of person who could understand a machine by listening to it, who could take something apart and put it back together better than before, and who seemed to see the world through math, logic, and motion.
He was a gifted carpenter, engineer, artist, mechanic, builder, and problem solver. Everything Shawn touched carried the mark of his focus and excellence. From a young age, he was always tinkering, repairing, building, improving, and patiently fixing what others had broken. As a teenager, he amazed his instructors by disassembling and reassembling a diesel engine in record time and was awarded for doing so. Those who knew him best were not surprised, Shawn’s genius had always been clear.
Shawn was passionate about tiny racing machines, RC helicopters, RC cars, motorcycles, and anything mechanical or mathematical. He flew RC helicopters with the confidence and control of a real pilot, raced RC cars with the instinct of a driver, and rode motorcycles with skill, discipline, and courage. He became an expert track motorcyclist and rode semi-professionally. He was also sought after by others to repair, tune, and understand the machines he loved.
Above all, Shawn was responsible, thoughtful, and exacting. He did not take careless risks. He calculated every angle. Whether lining up and making a pool shot, repairing an old engine, riding on the track, or solving a problem, Shawn saw what others missed. With Shawn, there was no half-stepping. If he committed to something, he gave himself fully.
Shawn was also a stargazer, a lover of the night sky, and a student of the universe. With his backyard observatory and deep knowledge of astronomy, he mapped the heavens with the same patience and wonder he brought to everything else. He loved nature, plants, and people. The way he nurtured plants from root to stem reflected the way he nurtured relationships with the people closest to him.
Though Shawn valued solitude, his space was sacred, if you were welcomed into it, you were trusted. If you were loved by Shawn, you knew it. He was kind, caring, generous, protective, and deeply loyal. He treated the world around him with reverence and treated his people with quiet devotion.
Shawn was not casual. He was complete. He was full of life, full of knowledge, full of curiosity, and full of love. His family will forever miss the brother, son, uncle, nephew, friend, and hero who could always pick up right where he left off, no matter how much time had passed.
We ask that you hold our family in your hearts as we grieve this tremendous loss. Please be patient if messages and well wishes are not answered immediately. Know that your love is heard, felt, and deeply appreciated.
There must be something up there that needs to be fixed. Shawn is on it.
Rest in Power, Shawn. Until we meet again.
