Muhsin Rasuul (John W. Richards, Jr, “Johnny”) was born in Bermuda on October 22, 1945, to John William and Bernice (Simons) Richards. The eldest of three wonderful sons, Muhsin studied business skills in school. John Sr. was a master builder with his own company and Muhsin, diligently taught those skills by his father, went to work with him after completing school. In 1967, Muhsin moved to the U.S., found the love of his life in Yvonne Del Harris and they married on August 23, 1970. They have two children together, Nicole and Tanica.
He and Yvonne raised their family in Irvington, New Jersey for many years and the family later settled in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. For most of Muhsin’s 40+ year career at New Jersey Transit, he was the head of a chapter of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) and devoted to advocating for his coworkers. He continued to use his carpentry skills for his family and friends, especially after he retired from NJ Transit. He enjoyed working around the house, watching court shows and political news. A regular day included chats with his wife about politics, helping Nicole in her garden, and Tanica with fixes around her home.
His family was the center of his life, his strength, in sickness and in health. As they deeply grieve the loss of his physical presence, his love and care will remain forever in their hearts. Death, be not proud, for even as they mourn and are broken, their unbreakable bond of love persists.
Muhsin is survived by his wife, Yvonne, his daughters Tanica Richards, Nicole Richards, and Johnell Booth (Ronald) and his granddaughter Jaidaya Booth. His brothers Ricky and David Richards. Sisters-in-law Patricia and Quillard Richards. Nieces Felicia, Richelle, Davita, Danita, and Tenee.
With a wide extended family on both sides, memories of him will be shared and cherished among many.
Ameen
