Joyce Ann Williams passed away peacefully at home in her sleep, surrounded by the love of her family, following a short battle with cancer. She was 82 years old.

Born in Harlem, New York, on April 21,1944, Joyce was a bright and inquisitive child with a passion for learning and discovery. Her early talent for the sciences earned her admission to the prestigious Bronx High School of Science. She went on to attend The City College of New York (CCNY), where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology.

Joyce dedicated her professional career to public health, scientific research, and safety. She began her work in the Infectious Disease Laboratory at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, contributing to vital medical research. Later, she brought her expertise to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), where she worked until her retirement.

Beyond her scientific work, Joyce had a deep passion for culture, literature, and travel. An avid reader, she brought neighbors together by leading her condominium’s book club. She loved exploring museums and attending the theater—frequently catching groundbreaking productions early on, including Hamilton during its first year on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. In addition to her love for the arts, she was an avid participant at her nearby senior center, staying deeply connected to her local community.

Above all, Joyce treasured her family. She was married to her devoted husband, Morris, for 43 years before his passing. She shared a wonderfully close bond with her daughter, Allison, with whom she traveled extensively and attended cultural events. In her later years, one of her greatest joys was visiting and spending quality time with her granddaughter, Zora.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Allison Dawn Williams; her granddaughter, Zora Hart Williams; and her brother, Norman Guy Travis. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Morris Bruce Williams, and her beloved son, Eric Sean Williams.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the many community members whose lives she touched.
