FRED GENTRY entered into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
Fred was born on August 3, 1952, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Early Gentry, Jr., and Willie Mae Gentry. He was the 3rd child of 10 children. Fred was a devout Christian.
In 1969, Fred moved to Brooklyn, New York, but also loved Queens, New York.
Fred graduated from Canarsie High School, Brooklyn, New York. Fred was also known by the name “Freddy G.” Fred started working at Main Hospital in 1980. He started in housekeeping and was promoted to the mental health department until retirement in 2017. He worked 37 years there.
After years of friendship, Fred Gentry married Anita Park on August 25, 2007, in Brooklyn, New York, where they blended their families together.
Fred had a love for music. He also had a group called GENT III. He loved to sing with the group, formed with his brother, Donald, and friends. He loved sports: basketball (diehard fan of the Knicks) and football every Sunday. Win or lose, he loved his sports.
Mostly Fred loved food. He loved all kinds of food. He loved his mother’s rainbow cakes and pies.
Fred was a calm and quiet man. He loved being around family and friends. He was always watching CNN and MSNBC all day long if he could. He also loved cars; he changed cars every year.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Early and Willie Mae Gentry; brother, Donad Gentry; and sisters, Gloria, Hope, and Cynthia. He is survived by his wife, Anita Gentry; daughter, Quintaja Gentry; grandson, Elijah; stepson, Rayshaun; two step-granddaughters, Brianna and Aurianna; sister-in-law, Linda Banks; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews; sisters, Pam, Rhonda, Sharleen, and April, Schenectady, New York; and brother, Steven, Schenectady, New York.
Fred had three best friends that were like brothers to him that were there for him in every way. They are Bruce Dines, Jerome Reed, and Ricky Jones.
