Dolores Yvette Mercado was born on October 14, 1966, in Newark, New Jersey to the late Patricia Ann
Grinola and Angel Ralph Mercado. She was the third child born to this union. On Saturday morning,
February 11, 2023, our dear sister passed away at the Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ after
battling cancer.
Dolores spent her early childhood years in Newark, NJ where she attended Franklin Elementary School
and later, she attended Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, NJ. Dolores resided in Newark, NJ until
she moved to Pennsylvania in 1992. While living in Pennsylvania, Dolores worked for the American
Travelers’ Insurance Company in Ben Salem, PA. During that time, Dolores went back to complete
school to gain her diploma and became a High School Graduate of the State of Pennsylvania in 2006. She
was worked at the Romano’s Macaroni Grill from 2003 to 2006. Dolores started working at Aramark in
2007 to 2009 and then in October of 2009, Dolores attended a district 1199C training and upgrading fund
to successfully complete the course of study for a Nurse’s Aide. In November of 2009, Dolores became a
State Certified Nurse Assistant. Shortly after, Dolores accepted an internship at the Simpson House
Assisted Living Facility. Dolores landed a job with Bayada Nurses/Mercy L.I.F.E. (Living Independently
for Elders) in Philadelphia, PA. Dolores worked as a traveling aide and helped many people and families
in the Pennsylvania area.
Dolores moved back to New Jersey in 2011 and started working at the Huck Finn Diner in Union, NJ.
Dolores stayed in Union and eventually moved to Elizabeth, NJ. In April of 2012, Dolores attended the
Garden State Science and Technical Institute and became a Pharmacy Technician in Jersey City, NJ. In
2014, she began continuing her education at Union County College to become a registered nurse. In 2021
through 2022, Dolores was working faithfully at the Maschios Food Services, Inc. serving as always.
Dolores was known as a hard worker and server. When you see her, she was always giving her best to
those around her. Dolores loved her family very much and wanted the best for everyone. She was a kind
and affectionate soul. Dolores accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in Pennsylvania and attended
Better Way Baptist Church. Dolores was always sharing the gospel or “sharing her faith” as she would
say. She read her Bible and sang songs in her devotional time. She was always ready to bring
encouragement and direct you to her Lord. The love she gave will continue to be felt in the hearts of
many.
Dolores started attending The Love of Jesus Family Church in 2011 after she came back to New Jersey.
Dolores received the Certificate of Fellowship from the Church on May 20, 2012. She began to serve on
the Food Pantry Ministry and on the “House of Glory” All-In Team. She was a faithful member; she
loved the people of God and was a cheerful giver.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Angel and Patricia Mercado, and her sister Adelaida (Tuta)
