Dion Lamar Smith Sr., affectionately known as Easy, Easy-D, and Malik-was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on December 13, 1969 to the late Reverend Chester Smith, Jr. and Alma Smith. On February 15, 2026, Dion peacefully received his wings as the Lord called him home.
Dion attended Piscataway High School, but later received his GED in lieu of a diploma. Dion lived a colorful life, had a love for music, and a passion for fashion. He was a collector of shoes, watches, and glasses. You could best believe he would stay freshly dressed in the latest fashion trends, while also always creating his own unique style. Dion was constantly on the move and always trying to find his next mission in life. He had an award winning and charming smile, and a great sense of humor.
He was a proud father of two beautiful children, Tamara Laidler, and Dion Smith, Jr.
In 2000, Dion relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina to be with his mother, the late Alma Smith, and his sister Tamara Smith. He worked various jobs finding his niche, and later found his true passion for mentoring and uplifting young black men in the community.
Dion was preceded in death by his father Reverend Chester Smith, Jr.; mother Alma Smith; grandmother Sally Mae Inman; grandfather Calvin Inman; grandmother Lenora Smith; and grandfather Chester Smith Sr.
Dion leaves to cherish his memory, his loving sister Tamara Smith; daughter Tamara Laidler; son Dion Smith Jr.; granddaughter Maliyah Laidler, and grandson Makhai Laidler; aunts Antoinette Peteet (Coleman Peteet, Sr.) and Donna Inman. Cousins Chanika Inman, Coleman Peteet, Jr., and Calvin Peteet. Godsister Tamiko Brooks-Smith (Michael Smith); companion Fran Roseboro, and a host of family and friends.
