Charles “Uncle George” Gordon was born on November 25, 1938, in Brown’s Town, St. Ann, Jamaica, West Indies. He entered into eternal rest on February 13, 2026, at Parker Nursing Home in Somerset, New Jersey.
Affectionately known as “Charles,” “George,” or “Uncle George” by family and friends, he resided in East Orange, New Jersey for over 30 years. George worked as a Nurse’s Assistant and Union Delegate at Windsor Gardens Care Center on Park Avenue in East Orange.
As a union delegate, George was a passionate advocate for workers’ rights. He worked closely with local and state leaders, campaigning for improved wages and better benefits for his fellow employees.
George married his first wife, Beverly Melbourne, and from this union were born two children, Wilton and Sandra. Though the marriage later ended in divorce, George went on to have two more children, Georgia and George.
George was a colorful and lively man who deeply loved his family. He stayed in constant contact with relatives and friends and enjoyed being surrounded by people. In his younger years, he was known for being the life of the party—often buying drinks for everyone at the bar. He enjoyed his Red Stripe beer and white rum and was a talented cook. Some of his most loved dishes included curried goat, oxtail, curried chicken, and rice and peas.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Daniel Gordon and Ester Campbell; three brothers, Basil, Edwin (“Busta”), and Earl; and two sisters, Elethe (“Auntie”) and Nova.
He leaves to cherish his memory four children: Wilton, Sandra, George, and Georgia.
He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren:
From Wilton: Chantel and Larissa.
From Sandra: Damien, Eric, and Angelia.
From George: Kailyn, Kendell, Kaydon, Kaylee, and Kaynessa.
From Georgia: Kayle, Kareem, and Kimani.
He is further survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, approximately thirty nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
George leaves his family with a lifetime of cherished memories. His spirit, laughter, and love for family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
