In Loving Memory of Charles C. Bowles V.

Charles C. Bowles V. (Chit), age 48, passed away on December 11, 2025 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, in Philadelphia, PA after battling illness. Born on August 1, 1977, Charles lived a life rooted in service, family, and unwavering integrity. A beacon of love, his presence enriched every life he touched. He was a cherished father, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend whose impact will endure for generations.

Charles was born in Orange, NJ and raised in Metuchen, NJ, the son of Charles C. Bowles, Sr. and Edwina (Crockett) Bowles, and the fifth son in a line of sons proudly bearing the name Charles. From a young age, he showed determination and excellence, excelling in sports and leading by example. A proud graduate of Metuchen High School’s Class of 1995, he was a standout athlete in football, track, baseball, and wrestling.

Charles served honorably in the U.S. Army and New Jersey Army National Guard from 1998 to 2013, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. His service included two combat tours in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where his courage, leadership, and calm under pressure earned him numerous commendations and the respect of every soldier who served beside him.

Following his military service, Charles continued his lifelong mission of protection and service. He worked as a fire safety inspector and electronics technician with SimplexGrinnell and later served for over 20 years with the Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons, where he was known for his professionalism, technical expertise, and steady presence in high-stress situations. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Grand Canyon University in 2015, a testament to his commitment to personal growth & development.

Faith was a foundation and cornerstone of Charles’ life. Raised in the Christian church, he carried those values into adulthood and into his marriage. Charles and his wife, LaNyka Brown Bowles, his high school sweetheart, shared a 30-year love story and a 25-year marriage grounded in unwavering love, mutual support, and steadfast protection of one another. Until the very end when Charles was called home, he was surrounded by the love of his devoted wife, who remained faithfully by his side.

Above all, Charles was devoted to his family and so very proud and supportive of his children. He is survived by his beloved wife, LaNyka; his children, Tyger and Asia; his mother, Edwina (Crocket) Bowles; his brothers Rodney, Charles Jr., Charles IV (Chunk), Charles VI (Cue), and Charles VII (CeCe); his sister Juliette Harrison; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, battle buddies, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles C. Bowles, Sr., and his brother, Charles III.

Charles C. Bowles V lived a life defined by honor, love, and service to others. He will be deeply missed, profoundly loved, and never forgotten.
